I began drawing at a time where Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards were banned from schools. I remember because I was mad as hell at not being able to trade with my friends. Anyway, I also remember because those two anime were my biggest influences back then. Those eventually gave way to more mature-themed anime like InuYasha, Trigun and Yu Yu Hakusho.

Over the years I developed more hobbies and interests and my range of influences expanded to Bob Rafei, Tetsuya Nomura, and Sanami Matoh. While all of those artists' marks aren't found in every single piece I can see that thought the years their presence has remained prominent in my sketchbooks and I must say I'm satisfied with what I've drawn from their works. Very very satisfied. Sometimes, when I'm doubting myself and the skills I do have,I look at their artwork and remember all the great ideas and stories they've inspired within me…and honestly, that really helps to keep me going. :)

It's been almost a year since I (uploaded art, and) made my last post about how I'm going to do better as an artist, but it seems that my words back then meant diddly squat. However, a few weeks ago, I had an epiphany.

I've gotta stop not finishing projects and I've finally realized why I do that. I am constantly comparing myself to other artists. Pros, peers, whatever. I'm always worried about how "right" something looks. I'm scared to make mistakes so if a piece isn't turning out how I imagined it down to the last detail, I give up on it. No more. Starting today, I'm going to focus more on enjoying what I'm doing instead of how "
right" it is. I lost my creative self somewhere but I'm going to find it again. Otherwise, I'll never grow as an artist.

So, I mean it. Whatever piece I start from now on, I am sticking with. Come hell or high water, I WILL make my art, and I WILL enjoy it without comparing myself to others. If I see a technique I like, I will study it, but I am going grow into my own artistic self and be the creator I've always wanted to be.
